What Is Skin Diseases Eczema?

Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis): Symptoms, Treatment, Causes, More | Everyday Health

Eczema is a common skin disease that can be very uncomfortable and embarrassing for both children and adults and it is caused by a combination of factors. The main cause of eczema is a person’s immune system. When the body encounters something it does not recognize as harmless, such as pollen, dust, or food, it produces chemicals known as antibodies. These antibodies attack the foreign substance causing itching and people usually apply the cream for itchy skin on it.

There are two kinds of eczema: acute and chronic. Acute eczema usually occurs when you have been exposed to a new allergen or irritant. You might develop eczema if you come into contact with poison ivy, mosquito bites, or even soap. If you have had a reaction to a particular drug, you could get eczema from using the same medication again.

Acute eczema often clears up within a few days after exposure to the allergen or irritants. However, sometimes it takes longer than this. Some people who suffer from acute eczema do not know what they have touched or eaten that has made them break out in hives. They just assume that their skin is reacting to something.

Chronic eczema is more difficult to treat because it lasts much longer. Many people believe that once they have recovered from acute eczema, they never need to worry about it again. Unfortunately, this is not true. Once your skin becomes inflamed, it stays inflamed until you find ways to control it; moisturizer for dry skin is not the only way to control it.

Psoriasis is another type of skin disorder that affects millions of people around the world. It causes red, scaly patches on the surface of the skin. Most people think that psoriasis only happens to older people. But actually, anyone can get it.

Psoriasis appears in three forms: plaque, guttate, and pustular psoriasis. Plaque psoriasis is the most common form. It develops slowly over time and covers large areas of the skin. Guttate psoriasis appears suddenly and affects small parts of the skin. Pustular psoriasis is the least common form. It starts suddenly and involves one area of the skin.

As mentioned earlier, several different types of eczema and psoriasis treatments exist in Malaysia.

Product Treatment

Creams, moisturizers, and lotions for eczema and psoriasis are easy to use and apply. They contain moisturizers and other ingredients designed to help heal the skin. Creams tend to leave a greasy feeling on the skin. Lotions tend to feel lighter and less greasy. Both creams and lotions can be applied twice daily. Moisturizing creams should not be used more than two times per day.

Gel-based products are also effective at treating psoriasis and are thicker than lotions and creams. They are used for long-term relief and are either oil-free or oil-based. The oil-free gel product is usually a good sensitive skin product and is preferred for those with sensitive skin. Oily gel products are recommended for those with oily skin.

Medication Treatment

Oral medications are usually prescribed to patients suffering from severe cases of psoriasis. Oral medications are taken orally. They are generally stronger than topical medications. The side effects of oral medications may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach pain.

Injectable medications are usually reserved for very serious cases of psoriasis where topical medications have failed. These medications are injected under the skin. They are also called biologics. Biologics are expensive and should be used as a last resort. Side effects of injectables may include bruising, swelling, and infection at the injection site.
